The Why of geopolitics is far from an exact science. To a great extent ‘Why’ comes down to opinion, based on an interpretation of facts and experience, but it should not come down to bias.
Explaining why a space mission ends in disaster could be a hard fact such as a heat shield coming loose – it does not need the context of the history of manned space flight and the personalities of the crew. However, seeking to explain why 9/11 happened, or why Putin invaded Crimea, requires a knowledge of history, politics, geography, personality, and culture. It then comes down to an opinion on which of these carries greater or lesser weight as deciding factors.
Thewhatandthewhy.com seeks to answer the Why based on the above factors, acknowledges that opinion includes bias, but attempts to put the bias to one side. It will not always be possible, but, as with this website, it will be a work in progress.
